Who can be listed in the Rare Earth Directory?

A company is listed when it owns or is building a US rare earth mine, project or plant, or supplies the US chain as a refiner, metal maker, magnet maker or recycler. A mine, project or plant is listed when a document shows it exists and what stage it has reached.

Listed

  • A US rare earth mine or project, with one of 5 statuses from producing to historic
  • A US plant that separates, refines, alloys, makes magnets or recycles, with one of 3 statuses from operating to planned
  • A company that owns or operates one, or supplies the chain, by its role in it
  • A US government support item for a listed company, with its status, in the support tracker

Not listed

  • A project outside the US. A company that is only US-listed has one page of its own: US-listed companies with projects abroad
  • A company with no US site, plan or supply link to the US chain
  • A claim with no document behind it. Every listing needs at least one source on file
  • Prices, ratings or investment views. A ticker appears as a fact only

The same rule is in the editorial policy. The 8 status labels are defined on the methodology page.

A plant is listed under its operator: it is a row in the operator's profile and a pin on the map (21 plants today). A company that is US-listed but has projects only outside the US is on US-listed companies with projects abroad, not in this table.

How do I ask to be listed, or to update a profile?

Email hello@rareearthdirectory.com from an address on the company's domain with its name and website, what it does in the US rare earth chain, its US sites and the documents that show them. The button below opens an email with these fields ready.

Email a listing requestReport a correction instead

What to include

  1. The request. Add a company, add a project or plant, or update a profile that exists.
  2. The company. Its name and website, and what it does in the US rare earth chain.
  3. The US sites. City and state, and where each stands: producing, in development, exploring, building or planned.
  4. Ownership and listing. Private, public with a ticker, or a subsidiary of another company.
  5. The documents. A filing, a permit, an agency release or a company release is best. Say which page shows what.
  6. You. Your name, role and company email address, so the directory can answer the right person.

Claiming a profile. There is no account to claim. A company speaks for itself by writing from its own domain, and the directory answers at that address. To fix one fact on an existing profile, the corrections page is the quicker route.

What happens after I ask to be listed?

The request is logged, the requester is checked, the documents are read against the original sources, and the directory then adds the listing with its sources, a grade and a date, or answers with the reason it did not. Every request gets a reply.

  1. LoggedThe request is recorded with its date, the company and the sender.
  2. Requester checkedA request made in a company's name is answered at an address on its own domain, or at a contact named on its website or in a filing. Anyone can send a document; speaking for a company needs this check.
  3. Read and sourcedThe documents are checked against the original sources, not against a second summary, and against the scope above.
  4. Published or answeredA listing goes in with its sources, a grade and the date, and is entered on the updates page. A request the directory declines is answered with the reason.

How a new listing is graded. A new listing is graded on what its sources show, never above it: High needs two primary sources (official records or company documents), Medium-High needs one, and a record with fewer is Medium or Low. A figure only the company states is labeled company-reported. See the grades on the methodology page. A confirmed error on an existing profile is fixed within 48 hours.

Can a company pay for a listing or change what its profile says?

No. A listing is free, and no payment, sponsorship or advertising affects a listing, a status, a grade or the order of a table. The directory writes every profile from documents, and a company supplies documents and facts, not copy.

A company can

  • Ask to be listed, or ask for a missing project or plant to be added
  • Send a filing or release that shows a fact is wrong or out of date
  • Send its response to a matter described on its page, which is shown with its source
  • Name the right contact, so a question reaches the right person

A company cannot

  • Pay for a listing, a badge, a featured label or a place in a table
  • Write or approve the text of its profile
  • Have an accurate, sourced fact removed because it is unwelcome
  • Get a higher grade on request alone; a grade follows the evidence

If sponsorship is ever introduced, the editorial policy says it will be labeled, kept apart from the editorial fields, unable to affect a status, a grade or an order, and announced there before it starts. See also who maintains the directory.

Questions about getting listed

Does it cost anything to be listed?

No. As of Oct 1, 2026 the directory has no advertising, sponsorship or paid listings, so there is nothing to buy, and no payment affects a listing, a status, a grade or the order of a table.

Does a listing need a full profile?

No. A company or project can be listed as a row in the role and stage tables before a profile is written. 6 of the 47 listed today are table rows only. A profile is written when the documents support one.

How do I claim my company's profile?

There are no accounts or logins. Write from an address on your company's domain, or from a contact named on its website or in a filing. The directory treats that message as the company's request and replies to the same address.

Can I choose what my profile says?

No. The directory writes every sentence from documents. A company supplies documents and facts, such as a filing, a permit or a release, and the page reports what they say, with the source.

Is a listing an endorsement?

No. A listing means the directory found the company or project in documents. It does not recommend it, vouch for it or check its claims beyond the grade shown, and company claims are labeled company-reported.

Will I get a reply?

Yes. Every request is answered, including one that is declined, and the answer names the document or the rule the decision rests on.
