Rare earth magnet manufacturers in the US
Seven US companies make rare earth magnets today: MP Materials, eVAC Magnetics, Noveon Magnetics, USA Rare Earth, Vulcan Elements, Arnold Magnetic Technologies and Electron Energy Corporation. Most make sintered NdFeB, and Arnold and Electron Energy also make samarium cobalt.
Planned plants would add much more: Vulcan targets 10,000 t/yr in Benson, MP Materials is building a 7,000 t/yr campus and USA Rare Earth a 6,400 t/yr one, against DOE's projected 2030 demand of about 38,700 t/yr.

The definition
What is a rare earth magnet manufacturer?
A rare earth magnet manufacturer makes permanent magnets from rare earth alloys: sintered NdFeB (neodymium-iron-boron) for EV motors and defense, or samarium cobalt (SmCo) for high-temperature aerospace uses. This page counts plants that make finished magnets in the US.
- NdFeB
- The common high-strength magnet; uses neodymium, praseodymium and, for heat resistance, dysprosium or terbium.
- SmCo
- A samarium cobalt magnet for heat and aerospace use; needs no dysprosium or terbium.
- Counted
- Plants that sinter or bond finished magnets in the US, with stated capacity.
- Not counted
- Distributors and assembly shops that buy magnets made elsewhere.

Which US companies manufacture rare earth magnets?
Seven US companies make rare earth magnets today and two more plants are planned. The table gives each plant's magnet type, stated capacity, status, customers and funding; filter by type or status to narrow it.

Does the USA make rare earth magnets?
Yes. MP Materials began making NdFeB magnets at Independence in Dec 2025, eVAC Magnetics shipped magnets from Sumter, South Carolina, and USA Rare Earth commissioned its Stillwater, Oklahoma plant in Mar 2026. Noveon, Vulcan, Arnold and Electron Energy also make magnets in the US.
Volumes are still small. Vulcan Elements had about 10 t/yr of capacity in Oct 2025, and Stillwater is ramping toward 600 t/yr. The largest stated operating capacity is Independence at about 3,000 t/yr, and the planned campuses would be several times larger.
How much rare earth magnet capacity is planned in the US?
Stated US magnet capacity targets add up to about 32,000 t/yr across eight plants, from 600 t/yr at Stillwater to 10,000 t/yr at Benson. DOE projected NdFeB magnet demand of about 38,700 t by 2030, but the targets are company-reported and their dates differ.
The bars show stated targets, not output, and the dates range from 2026 to 2028 or later. The same total would still depend on oxide and metal supply, which is why the separation and metal steps are the constraint. See the capacity tracker for capacity against demand.

Who makes samarium cobalt magnets in the US?
Arnold Magnetic Technologies and Electron Energy Corporation make samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets in the US, and Arnold fabricates and tests them at its Rochester, New York headquarters. SmCo needs no dysprosium or terbium but does need samarium, which China licenses for export.
Arnold signed 2025 supply agreements with Less Common Metals and Solvay to source samarium outside China, and a Thailand plant is meant to more than double its SmCo output. US SmCo sintering capacity is not stated in the sources checked. See US sources of samarium and SmCo magnets.
